Rafa Benitez’s Napoli pulled off a first win over AC Milan at the San Siro in 27 years winning 2-1, carrying on from a confident midweek performance in the Champions League when they beat ten-man Borussia Dortmund 2-1.
Miguel Angel Britos opened the scoring for the away team before Gonzalo Higuaín scored his third Serie A goal since moving from Real Madrid, the striker thundered a low shot past Abbiati at his near post to give Napoli their second.
Milan’s Italian international striker Mario Balotelli was the most dangerous player for the Rossoneri and looked most likely to score for the home side.
Reina made a wonderful smart save to his right to thwart a Balotelli penalty in the 61st minute before denying the striker again in the 76th minute when he stopped a curling effort from outside the box.
Super Mario was not to be denied though and finally got on to the score sheet in injury time to claim a deserved goal after carrying the Milan team throughout the game.
Rafa’s unbeaten team have sent a message to the rest of their Serie A rivals that they will be serious title contenders again this season and that they should not be taken lightly, and with Higuaín fitting seamlessly into the Napoli setup, they now have a natural goal scorer to replace last season’s departed top scorer Edison Cavani.
