Fernando Torres faces a battle to start for Chelsea this season, according to manager Jose Mourinho.
And The Special One says that El Nino should relish the challenge to keep Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku out of the starting line-up.
Torres has been enjoying time off after Spain’s exploits at the Confederations Cup, and has not participated in Chelsea’s pre-season programme yet.
In his absence, Lukaku has staked his claim, scoring goals for fun- including two in the Blues’ 8-1 demolition of the Indonesia All Stars on Thursday.
Chelsea are also in pursuit of Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney, indicating the attack is an area Mourinho wants to strengthen.
But rather than feel threatened, Mou says Torres should welcome the opportunity to prove he is the £50 million top dog Chelsea signed from Liverpool.
"I think Torres should be happy, because we have competition in the team in every position and that is good for everybody," said Mourinho.
"Sometimes Torres has been the only striker and then Demba Ba came in January, and now we have three strikers and that is good for the team."
