Mkhitaryan/Mignolet In Merseyside Moves?

Liverpool target, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, is refusing to confirm or deny that he is close to quitting Shakhtar Dontesk for Anfield.

Reds fans are anxious for the dynamic Armenian international to join the Brendan Rodgers revival, which has already seen Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas join the club.

But although Liverpool have reportedly agreed to pay as much as £22 million to release Mkhitaryan from his contract at Shakhtar, the deal is said to have hit a few snags.

More than one major European team covets the player who scored 25 goals from midfield last season, and the fact that he has third-party ownership may also have slowed his move away from Ukraine.

Various rumour mills suggest that Mkhitaryan is inching closer to Liverpool, but he is keeping his cards close to his chest.

"I am happy to see that people show keen interest in my career but I would like to ask all not only to refrain from making comments but also to prevent the spread of unverified and false information. I am not meddling with these affairs. If have a contract with a club, I just fulfil it,” he said on Facebook.

"If an agreement is reached between clubs I will be informed of the details and then will accept or reject it. I'm not planning any media communication because I cannot comment on things of which I have no information. Professional players have rules in life and I'm obliged to respect them.

"I promise that you will hear any news first on my Facebook page or the official club website."

Meanwhile, Liverpool set to join the hipster brigade in snapping up a member of Belgium’s golden generation of young players.

Sunderland’s Belgian international goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet, is reportedly due at Anfield for a medical on Tuesday, ahead of a £9 million move to Liverpool.

Should the talented 25-year-old shot-stopper become Liverpool’s impressively early fourth signing, he will augment Rodger’s first-team squad immeasurably.

Questions will then be asked about Pepe Reina’s future on Merseyside.

The Reds faithful would love two top class ‘keepers slugging it out for a first-team place.

But will a £9 million international accept a spot on the substitute’s bench? Or will Reina be sold?
