Meanwhile, Inter Milan were dealt a huge blow in their quest to solidify themselves in the top three as Udinese thumped them 3-0.
The first half was an even affair with Antonio Di Natale rattling the cross bar with a shot after Rodrigo Palacio’s penalty appeals at the other end had been dismissed.
Di Natale scored the opener in the 63rd minute at the Stadio Friuli with a well weighted shot that flew into the bottom corner.
Juan Jesus was then sent off for the visitors only two minutes later after being shown a second yellow card.
The Bianconeri were further in front not long afterwards with Luis Muriel getting the all-important second.
In the 79th minute Di Natale wrapped up the win when he met Giovanni Pasquale's low cross to bag his 12th of the season.
