Swansea City have managed to beat away the wolves at their door, and secure the services of Spanish attacking midfielder Michu for another season.
Michu has proved to be the bargain buy of the season, having signed for the Swans for just £2million from Rayo Vallecano.
The 26-year-old has taken the Premier League by storm, scoring a stunning 16 goals in 28 appearances.
He has even managed to attract the attentions of Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque, and could be in line for a late call-up to La Furia Roja.
Michu is now in demand across Europe, and Swansea could make a pretty profit if they wanted to sell him.
But he has already become a cult hero at the Liberty Stadium, and is so central to Michael Laudrup’s plans, that the club moved quickly to tie him down.
And Michu is now happy to remain a Swan until 2016 at least.
“It was an easy decision for me,’’ Michu said, in a statement released on Swansea’s official website. “I am living a dream here at Swansea.
“I’m probably enjoying my football more than ever. It’s easy to play with this team and tonight I have the chance to reach the first final of my career.
“I’m really happy here in the city with the people, the club and the fans. Everyone has been so nice to me since I arrived.
“I think the club are happy with me because they have given me a new contract. I am certainly happy with the club.’’
Michu's contract extension could not have come at a better time, and Swansea will take great heart that their best player is staying, as they seek to reach Wembley by eliminating Cheslea from the Capital One Cup tonight.
