Lionel Messi’s name will be under the Camp Nou lights for some time yet, after Barcelona confirmed he is set to sign a contract extension.
The news of Messi’s long-term commitment to Barca broke in December last year, and the day has finally come for him to put his expensive scrawl on paper.
The 25-year-old genius has been at Barca since he was a boy, and will now add two more years to his contract at the Catalan club, which will see him remain there until 2018 at least.
Announcing the impending signing ceremony, Barca said on their website: "Leo Messi will become the latest player to extend his time at Barca.
"Recent weeks have already seen extensions agreed for captains Carles Puyol and Xavi Hernandez.
"On Thursday, the striker, who is currently in Sweden with the Argentina national team, will sign a renewed contract that binds him to FC Barcelona until June 30, 2018. The venue will be the club offices, and the time will be 16.30."
