Arsenal defender Per Mertesaker has revealed that he would welcome the signing of German compatriot Julian Draxler from Schalke.
The 20 year old attacking midfielder has been linked with a move to the Emirates during the January transfer window to join up with the rest of Arsenal’s German contingent.
"We would love to welcome a player like Draxler, he is so young and already plays a huge role in Schalke and in the national team," Mertesacker told German website Spox.
"But there is lots of talking about possible transfers, I am curious about what is going to happen,” the big defender added.
"We already have a little German academy here and I learned that German discipline and talents are very appreciated here (in London)."
On Thursday, Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt reiterated that there had been no official offer for the young playmaker.
"There is no offer," Heldt told Bild.
"We have not heard that Julian wants to leave," the sporting director went on to say.
