Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino was disappointed by his side’s performance following their 1-1 draw against Levante in a La Liga match on Sunday while Lionel Messi defended his team by saying they were unlucky.
Barcelona dropped two vital points which sees them tied on 51 points at the top of the La Liga table with Atletico Madrid, only above them due to a superior goal difference.
Martino bemoaned his side’s inability to find the winning goal after squandering numerous chances in front of goal and said he was ‘sad’ to draw such a match.
“This draw isn't what we came here for and nor was it what we deserved,” said Martino.
“We were not fortunate in front of goal, but the season will bring about many more surprises and the remaining 18 rounds of the season will show that.
“We're leaving sad because we were unable to win. We know that we're going to win nine out of 10 of these types of matches.”
Messi tried to defend his side’s showing by saying they were extremely unfortunate not to find the back of the net on the day.
“It's a shame, we did everything possible to win, but they closed off at the back and didn't give us any space,” added Messi.
“It's a difficult stadium to play in, but we tried. We did enough to deserve to win, just lacked a bit of luck.”
