Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini, has started his mind games with tonight’s opponents, claiming he always expected Liverpool to slip in the title race last season.
Following City’s loss in the last meeting between the two title contenders, Pellegrini’s side found themselves behind the Reds with just four games to play.
However, the Citizens moved past Liverpool in last few weks and Pellegrini has now build up pressure on Brendan Rodgers’ side again.
“I was not surprised (Liverpool did not win the title),” he said in his pre-macth press conference.
“I was absolutely convinced when I said the words that I said - 'careful it's not finished because they have to play four games more and the pressure when you are at the top of the table is increasing after every game'.
“I was absolutely sure they weren't going to win the four games that they had to play.”
The Chilean also insisted his squad is still the strongest in the Premier League and that he wouldn’t trade it for any other in the title race.
"Here in the Premier League you always have four or five strong teams that can win the title and if we want to continue winning titles, of course, we must improve,” he added.
"But I always say my players are the best players in the Premier League and we have the strongest squad, not only attackers but also defending, and in the whole squad.
"Other teams also have strong squads but if you are analysing the players I prefer mine."
Manchester City will host Liverpool in the first big match of the season tonight.
