According to the Evening Standard, Lille winger Nicolas Pepe is being heavily chased by four big clubs, all of whom are said to be willing to pay the £71.6 million (R1.25 billion) asking price the French club has set.
Lille president Gerard Lopez has revealed he promised the winger he would be sold in this window, with Napoli one of four clubs to have shown a keen interest in signing the 24-year-old.
"Last year, we asked Pepe to stay with the promise that we would sell in this transfer window," Lopez told Tuttosport.
"We received offers that satisfy us economically from four big clubs.
"Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has satisfied our request for €80 million. Now it is up to the player to decide where he wants to go.
"He must make that decision based on the offers that his agents have received from the four clubs.
"On Monday, Pepe will return from vacation and I believe that, by the middle of the week, he will have made a decision."
If Pepe does move for a fee in this region, he would overtake the likes of Cedric Bakambu and Riyad Mahrez as the most expensive African star of all time.
While Napoli and United said to be two of the four clubs keen on his services, he has also been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Inter Milan.
