Van Gaal: I’m Not The Devil

New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has pleaded with the Red Devils fans to remain patient and on his side as he builds a team for the future.

Van Gaal got his reign as the United manager off to the worst possible start following a 2-1 loss to Swansea City in an English Premier League match last weekend and already the fans are on his back.

Much was expected of Van Gaal who had a positive preseason which saw the club on a five game unbeaten run, but he has urged fans that it will take time to build a team capable of winning the championship.

“It is always like that. Two weeks ago I was the king of Manchester and now I'm the devil of Manchester,” said Van Gaal.

“That's the football world and especially the media in this football world.

“I can imagine that the fans are also scared because they have seen the last year and they have seen now the first home match.

“They have to believe in the philosophy that we bring in this club.

“The players are believing in it and they have shown it in the United States, now they have to show it here. It needs time.

“I think the fans of Manchester are intelligent. I've already said that the first three months will be difficult for the players and the fans.

“I've said it to [Ed] Woodward [the chief executive] and the Glazers that this is what it is.

“They have hired me for my philosophy, not because I'm a nice guy. I am a nice guy, but that's not why I was brought here.

“I'm not hired to be fired. I'm hired to build up a team. That process needs time.

“I bring another philosophy in the club. You have to believe in the philosophy that again we make a big club, but it needs time.

“It is not an overnight job.”
