Manchester United have completed the signing of Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid for a British transfer record fee of £59.7 million.
Di Maria, who made 190 appearances for Real during which he scored 36 goals and assisted further 87, had arrived for his medical last night and signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford this morning.
And the Argentine says the Red Devils were the only team he would have left Madrid for.
"I am absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester United. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Spain and there were a lot of clubs interested in me, but United is the only club that I would have left Real Madrid for," Di Maria told the club's official website.
"Louis van Gaal is a fantastic coach with a proven track record of success and I am impressed by the vision and determination everyone has to get this club back to the top – where it belongs. I now just cannot wait to get started."
Meanwhile, the United boss believes the Argentine is a world class talent.
"Angel is a world-class midfielder but most importantly he is a team player. There is no doubting his immense natural talent." said Van Gaal.
The deal takes United’s summer spend to £130.7 million, more than they have spent in any other transfer window before and it suggested that Louis van Gaal will bring at least one more player to Old Trafford.
United face League One MK Dons in the League Cup tonight, but di Maria won’t be eligible for the game. However, he will be available to make his debut at Burnley on Saturday if he is registered by midday on Friday.
