Man United Lose Again

A single goal from Yohan Cabaye handed Manchester United yet another defeat as Newcastle ran out 1-0 winners in an English Premier League match at Old Trafford on Saturday.

It was Newcastle’s first win at Old Trafford for 41 years as David Moyes finds himself in hot water with the Man United fans.

The Red Devils dominated the opening exchanges, but for all their possession they really struggled to break down a stubborn Newcastle defence.

Man United, though, were poor in the final third and were unable to produce that final pass that would create a scoring opportunity.

One of the home side’s best chances came in the 11th minute as Tom Cleverley had two shots from just inside the box blocked by heroic Newcastle defenders.

As the half wore on Newcastle found their footing in the game and consequently they created more chances than United in opening 45 minutes.

In the 25th minute Cabaye had the away side’s first attempt on goal with a long range shot that went narrowly wide of the target.

Newcastle  finished the half the stronger of the two sides and it took important saves from Man United’s David De Gea in injury time to keep the scores level.

First, Mathieu Debuchy nipped in behind Patrice Evra on the right flank and proceeded to drive into the box, but saw his attempt well blocked by De Gea in a one-on-one. Then moments later Debuchy was on the end of a cross, but his header was again thwarted by the keeper.

After the break United came out attacking and had a host of chances.

In the 51st minute Robin Van Persie picked out Javier Hernandez with a through ball, but the Mexican saw his shot well-saved by Tim Krul.

A minute later Adnan Januzaj did brilliantly to control the ball inside the box, but his volley on the spin was saved by Krul diving low to his left.

In the 54th minute Evra was on the end of a corner-kick, but he saw his header smash off the right-hand post and bounce away from danger.

Then in the 61st minute, very much against the run of play, Newcastle took the lead as Cabaye expertly tucked home a low right wing cross into the bottom left-hand corner from 14-yards out.

Ten minutes later and United thought they had found the equaliser when Van Persie found the back of the net with a four-yard header, but his effort was disallowed due to him being off-sides.

United tried to find their way back into the match, but Newcastle were able to protect their lead as the match ended 1-0 in favour of Newcastle.
