May Mahlangu’s Helsingborg went to the top of the Swedish top flight with a 2-1 win over Elfsborg at the Olympia stadium on Monday evening.
The Bafana Bafana international played the full 90 minutes in his side’s seventh league win of the season that took them two points clear over IFK Goteborg in second place.
The first 45 minutes was an enticing affair as three goals were scored, the first coming in the sixth minute as David Accam gave Helsingborg’s the lead with a clinical finish.
Elfsborg, though, fought back and restored parity in the 22nd minute through Lars Nilsson.
Accam scored his second goal six minutes before the break to give Helsingborg the lead for the second time, a lead they would not surrender.
The second 45 was not as entertaining as chances were few and far between.
Helsingborg opted instead to sit back in defence and hold onto their lead while Elfsborg were woeful in the final third.
The win was Helsingborg’s sixth in a row after finding the back of the net an impressive 19 times in that period.
