Madrid See Off Osasuna

Goals from Karim Benzema and Jese Rodriguez secured a 2-0 win over Osasuna in their Copa del Rey first leg encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Osasuna had an early effort at goal in the 8th minute as Oriol Riera's drilled effort was tipped around the post by Iker Casillas.

Madrid went ahead in the 19th minute through Karim Benzema, the Frenchman headed home from close range following Luka Modric's free kick.

Aiser Illarramendi came close to doubling Madrid's lead in the 29th minute with a snap shot that went just wide of the past, after being picked out by Gareth Bale.

Osasuna's Oier Sanjurjo nearly equalised for the host in the 31st minute but his header went inches wide of Casillas's post.

Oier squandered a great chance to level matters for the visitors but the midfielder poked his effort wide of the post from inside the box after being played in by Torres.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed an opportunity to double the home side's lead in the 60th minute, after the Portuguese fired straight at Aiser Riesgo from close range, following a cross from Bale.

That miss was quickly forgotten as seconds later, Jese Rodriguez doubled Los Blancos lead with a finish from close range, after a quick counter attack.

Ronaldo missed another opportunity to get his name on the score sheet in the 63rd minute, as he managed to get on the end of Modric's cross but failed to direct his effort on target.

Two minutes later and Ronaldo missed another opportunity to extend the home side's lead, the winger failed to keep his header down after a cross from Marcelo.

Bale came close to getting a third for Madrid in the 75th minute, the Welshman's shot was destined for the bottom corner but took a deflection off Ronaldo, which directed the effort just wide.
