Romelu Lukaku has thrown down the gauntlet to Chelsea’s strikers, challenging them to score more goals this season than he does on loan for Everton.
The young Belgian, heralded as Chelsea’s ‘new Didier Drogba’, has failed to make his mark at Stamford Bridge like the Ivorian did. Despite starring on loan for West Brom last season, he was again shipped off from Chelsea after failing to convince new manager Jose Mourinho of his abilities.
Not one of the strikers that The Special One thinks are better than Lukaku- Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o- have scored yet in the Premier League this season.
Torres has scored a goal in the Europa League and Capital One Cup but Lukaku puts them all to shame with his four-goal return for the Toffees.
He remains convinced that Mourinho should have kept him at the Blues and he told Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad that he will prove it.
"The coach decides and as a player you have to respect that. I chose to leave and it's up to me to prove the coach wrong,” he said.
"The only thing I can do is play well and score a lot. And then I think people will say that I'm a good player.
“I want to score more goals than the strikers of Chelsea. We will see at the end of the season who made the best choice."
