After Croatia's crushing 6-0 loss to Spain on Tuesday, captain Luka Modric insisted he is not obsessed with winning The Best FIFA Men's Player award.
Barca Star: Messi The Best Ever, Modric The Best This Year
The 33-year-old, who is nominated alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah, is believed to be the favourite to pick up his third individual accolade in 2018.
After his country's disappointing result against La Furia Roja at the Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero, however, Modric claimed that he is not too fazed about whether or not he wins the prestigious prize.
"For me, the important thing is the collective, winning the prize is not what obsesses me the most," Modric said, as quoted by FourFourTwo.
"If I do not win it, nothing happens."
The Real star also spoke about the 2018 World Cup finalists' poor performances against Spain.
"A very tough game. We started the game in the first 20 minutes very well, we had two or three, let's say, clear chances. We didn't score, and when we conceded the first goal, and especially the second, we fell apart," he added.
"We started playing each for themselves, not helping each other, staying far from our players, and against a team like this, that's deadly. In the end, the result is poor.
"It was a hard loss, but we need to draw lessons from this. If we aren't at 100%, if we aren't in every game like we were at the World Cup, it's hard to play against any team, particularly teams like Spain."
