The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) is due to announce its verdict in the Luis Suarez appeal on Thursday at 14:00.
Suarez and his club, Barcelona, have appealed FIFA’s decision to hand him a four-month ban from all football related activities for his alleged bite on Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup.
A CAS statement read, "At the request of the appellants and with the agreement of FIFA, the CAS has conducted an expedited arbitration procedure. As a consequence, the CAS Panel has accepted to render its decision within a short period of time but with grounds to follow later."
Barcelona paid Liverpool £75 million for Suarez after the incident occurred and FIFA had imposed the ban. The club hopes to appeal the decision on the grounds that the incident had occurred while Suarez was on international duty.
As the ban stands, Suarez will only be allowed to return to football on October 25, but Barcelona are hoping that the ban will be reduced to two months, which means that he may return on August 25.
Furthermore, the club are hoping that Suarez will be allowed to train with his team, which he is not currently allowed to do.
Suarez had to appear in court last week and also received the backing of his 'victim' Giorgio Chiellini.
