Liverpool, who are one of the favourites to lift the League Cup title, named a much-changed squad for their clash against lower league outfit Milton Keynes Don last week, and recorded a comfortable 2-0 win, courtesy of goals from James Milner and Ki-Jana Hoever.
The result was straightforward for the Reds, but reports from England have now emerged that the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League winners could be expelled from the competition after allegedly fielding an ineligible player.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are being investigated after bringing Pedro Chirivella on as a substitute during the match, and the Spanish midfielder might not have been eligible to feature in the competition.
Chirivella reportedly has not received an international transfer certificate since returning from loan at Extremadura last season, thus disallowing him to compete for Jurgen Klopp's side, although the club has insisted that the administrative error rests with the English Football Association.

If found guilty, Liverpool could be expelled from the competition, but are more likely to face a fine, as was the case with Sunderland in 2014, when they were sanctioned after fielding an ineligible player against the same opposition.
