Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, says the deal for Yevhen Konoplyanka is complicated, but Liverpool representatives are working hard to make it happen.
The 24-year-old Ukraine international is the ‘major signing’ Rodgers is hoping for, and Liverpool have reportedly offered him a five-and-a-half year contract.
Tottenham, who reportedly tried hijack the deal, but the player seems to be keen for a move to Anfield instead.
Rodgers now gave an update on the negotiations in his pre-match press conference.
"No update yet. Obviously an interest in the player, but no update," the Liverpool boss said.
"It's complicated, but our staff over there have given us the best chance of getting the player."
Konoplyanka himself is very surprised by the serious interest of the Reds, who want to add another player to their squad after their main target, Mohamed Salah, instead joined Chelsea.
"I'm excited about it and soon everyone will know where I will play," Konoplyanka was quoted earlier today.
"Is it very serious with Liverpool? I am shocked myself at how serious it is. I think in the near future everything will become clear."
Liverpool still has a few hours to make the deal before the transfer window closes tonight.
