Liverpool have announced the signing of Rickie Lambert from Southampton for a fee of £4m (R 70 million) on Monday.
The 32-year-old centre-forward came through the youth ranks of the club, but had been released as a 15-year-old.
He has played in all four English top division before finding his way back to his boyhood love 17 years later and will now play Champions League football at Anfield.
"I have always dreamt of playing for Liverpool, but I did kind of think the chance of playing for them had gone. I didn't think the chance would come,” he told the club’s official website.
"I know how big Liverpool are - and it means everything to me - but I know what is important; I know it's what I do on the pitch and the minutes I play. I know that's what matters, and that's what I'll be focused on."
Lambert has been impressed at Southampton and scored 117 goals on 235 appearance for the Saints.
His fine performances have earned him his England debut in 2013 and he has been included in Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad.
