Liverpool Down Hull

Goals either side of the half time from Daniel Agger and Luis Suarez saw Liverpool beat Hull City 2-0 in an English Premier League match at Anfield on New Year’s Day.

The home side dominated the opening 45 minutes and deservedly took a 1-0 lead into the half time break.

Liverpool were on the attack from the word go with Glen Johnson cutting in from the right flank as early as the sixth minute, but saw his left-footed shot well-saved by the keeper.

Hull created their only real opening of the half in the 14th minute as Sagbo tried his luck from 25-yard sout, but he saw his well struck effort sail narrowly over the crossbar.

In the 19th minute Luis Suarez had the ball in the back of the net after heading home a Coutinho free-kick, but he was adjudged off-side.

Seven minutes later Raheem Sterling was sent through on goal by Suarez, but with only the keeper to beat the Liverpool man shot straight at McGregor who made a good stop.

Finally in the 37th minute Liverpool made their pressure tell as Daniel Agger headed home a Coutinho corner from ten-yards out, 1-0.

The last chance of the half came in the 42nd minute as Jordan Henderson was played through on goal by a delightful pass from Aspas, but he sent his effort wide of goal with just the keeper to beat.

The second half saw Liverpool start where they had left off as Suarez doubled their lead with a superb free-kick from 25-yards out, 2-0.

Hull started to throw men forward after going two down and Davies came close to pulling one back for the away side as corner dropped to him on the edge of the box in the 67th minute, but his shot went agonisingly wide.

Hull tried to find their way back into the game, but Liverpool hung on for a the win.
