This Keeper Has Scored More Penalties Than Messi!
Messi has been used that role for Barcelona this season, and put in excellent performances, and Martino feels that it will be best if he does the same for Argentina.
Martino has been impressed with Messi’s recent form and is delighted that he is getting involved in so much of the build-up play.
"Lionel playing wide on the right and Mascherano alternating between centre-back and central midfielder benefits us,” Gerardo told Depor Tv.
"He's looking really good. He's heavily involved in the build-up play and is scoring and setting up a lot of goals.”
The Former Barcelona manager spoke about the many attacking options he has at his disposal, and is hoping all players will be hungry for a starting spot when they team gets together.
"We have a surplus of forwards. (Gonzalo) Higuaín, (Carlos) Tévez and (Sergio) Agüero are in great form.
“They're the ones who won't make way for the likes of (Paulo) Dybala, (Mauro) Icardi, (Luciano) Vietto and (Franco) Di Santo, who are all impressing.”
Argentina face El Salvador on 27 March in a friendly game, as a build-up to their Copa America campaign.
