Lewandowski: I'm Still Leaving Dortmund

A war of words is bubbling at Borussia Dortmund, between the club’s executives and want-away striker, Robert Lewandowski.

On Monday, Dortmund ruled out selling Lewandowski to their German rivals, Bayern Munich.

The Polish striker is on record as saying that Bayern are his “dream club” and that he was close to joining “the club of [his] choice.”

And Bayern icon, Franz Beckenbauer said that while he can understand why Dortmund don’t want to sell another player to their main rivals: “I am curious how this can work for a year when he wants to join FCB.”

Now it seems that it is only Bayern that cannot buy Lewandowski, and that Dortmund may relent to let him leave for elsewhere.

“I’m not saying he will definitely stay. But he will certainly not join Bayern in 2013,” the club’s chief executive Aki Watzke told Bild.

“In the next few days, we will discuss everything with Robert and his agents. That is out of common respect.”

Lewandowski meanwhile, remains determined to leave Dortmund sooner rather than later.

He has hit out that club for seemingly going back on their word to him.

“He [Watzke] recently told me something different. He knows what I wish for.

“He has promised me that I will be allowed to leave, and now something different happens.

“But I think everything will change. In my opinion, this is not the last decision, and I believe everything will change and come to a good conclusion. Everyone at Borussia Dortmund knows what I want and where I want to go to.”

Asked if it could be that he plays for a club in England or Spain, Lewandowski added: “One day.”

Interestingly, when the story that Lewandowski thinks he will still leave Dortmund broke, English Premier League club Manchester City re-tweeted the news from their official Twitter account.
