Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott admits that their pre-season tour is all about getting back to full fitness.
The English Premier League side will take on SuperSport United in their opening game of their tour of South Africa on Sunday before facing off with AmaZulu on Thursday.
The Citizens have brought some of their star players with for the Nelson Mandela Football Invitational and although some fans will be hoping to see City running at full tilt, Lescott says that their main aim is simply to up the fitness levels.
Speaking to the Siya crew, the England defender said, "I think pre-season is just about preparation, we're not looking to peak.
"It's just a case of getting through the game, opening up the legs and opening the lungs."
Despite this, City will be hoping to get an early winning mentality under new coach Manuel Pellegrini as they look to bounce back from a disappointing season where they lost the title to Manchester United and were beaten by Wigan in the FA Cup final.
