Lazio booked their place in the UEFA Europa League by beating bitter rivals AS Roma in the Coppa Italia final on Sunday night.
Roma had the first chance at the Stadio Olympico with Michael Bradley firing a shot just wide of the target in the ninth minute after a fine run from the American.
Opportunities were hard to come by for both sides as Francesco Totti blazed a shot miles over in the 23rd minute.
Miroslav Klose then went close for Lazio in the 34th minute when he got up well at the far post but his header was kept out by a brilliant close-range save from the goalkeeper.
Roma had the final chance of the half with Mattia Destro sending his header just wide of the target in the 44th minute.
Things remained tense after the break with Totti lifting a shot over from distance in the 58th minute while Stefano Mauri sent a beautiful cross across the face of goal in the 67th minute.
Marquinhos then worked the goalkeeper at the other end a minute later and Lazio would hit the front soon after. Senad Lulic reacted fastest at the far post to prod home the opener.
Roma went close to equalising with Totti hitting the underside of the crossbar with a free-kick but that was their last real chance as Lazio saw out the victory.
