Argentina 4-0 Mexico
With captain Messi suspended, manager Lionel Scaloni was looking for a few of his players to step up in the superstar's absence, and 22-year-old forward Martinez duly obliged.
The player, who is said to be on Barca's radar, opened the scoring in the 17th minute with his left foot after taking on a few Mexico defenders on the edge of their box. Five minutes later, Martinez added his second when he got on the end of a through-ball with a well-timed run.
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes converted from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute to extend the Albiceleste's lead, while Martinez completed his hat-trick six minutes before the break.
The match ended as the first half did, with Argentina 4-0 up, after an impressive performance at the Alamodome in Texas, US.
Brazil 0-1 Peru
Although the Selecao arguably had the better chances against Peru, whom they beat in the final of the 2019 Copa America, it was not to be for Tite's men in the early hours of Wednesday.
A goal in the 85th minute from Luis Abram handed Brazil their first defeat since the 2018 FIFA World Cup, a run consisting of 17 matches without loss.
