England midfielder Frank Lampard says his Three Lions side are taking their 2-0 loss to Chile ‘on the chin’ and are moving on.
England were completely outplayed in an international friendly at Wembley stadium on Tuesday night, but Lampard insists that they are taking the positives out of the loss.
“I think there are some positives,” said Lampard.
“We lost the game, and you never like to lose a game, but, on the negative side, we let them create chances.
“You have to remember they are top-quality opposition.
“It was a different style of play to what we are used to, so I think it was a very useful exercise for us.
“We don't like to lose, but we've qualified for Brazil and we have to take certain things on the chin, learn from the mistakes and letting them have too many opportunities.
“Also, look at the fact that we created a lot - it was a very open game, first half particularly. It could have been 2-2 or 3-3 going in at half-time.”
Making their debuts on the night for England were Fraser Forster, Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez, and despite the loss the England captain on the night felt they all did well.
“It was a tough game for them to come in,” added Lampard.
“Not every international game is like that, you have to tell them that after the game because the way they knocked the ball about, and their goalie was probably man of the match the way he distributed the ball.
“That's very good learning for them.
“I thought they were very bright and very sharp. Adam had a couple of chances that he might, on another day, have scored one or two goals on his debut.
“They deserved their starts and I think they've done themselves a lot of credit.”
