Madrid Move Back On Top

Karim Benzema got two assists as Real Madrid moved on top of the Spanish log with their 4-0 win over Almeria at the Bernabeau Stadium on Saturday evening.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side will move onto the pinnacle of the league standings equal on points, but better on goal difference then Atletico Madrid.

It was one-way traffic from the word go and it saw Real Madrid do what they do best, attack. Angel Di Maria latched on to a sweet pass on the edge of the box and unleashed a brilliant shot towards the goal, only to see it denied by the crossbar after just four minutes.

Esteban was then commended for his superb goalkeeping when he stopped another effort from Di Maria. The ball looked destined to go but he did well to deny the Argentine.

The Galacticos did eventually break the deadlock midway through the opening half. Nacho found himself in a good position inside the box, but he decided to pass the ball onto Di Maria, who kept his cool and blasted the ball inside the left post.

Real Madrid came out of the interval hungry for more and they tripled their lead with two goals in the space of three minutes.

Karim Benzema produced a sweet pass and picked out Gareth Bale, who quickly took a shot which went into the bottom right corner for 2-0.

Three minutes later and Benzema was again creating a moment of magic as he unleashed a brilliant cross to Isco. The striker shot from the just inside the box to add Madrid’s third of the night.

Another big chance fell to the Frenchman ten minutes before the full-time whistle when the ball was delivered at his feet, but skied it out of the pitch.

Morata had the final bite of the cherry when he scored the host’s final goal five minutes from time after sending the ball into the roof of the net from an Asier Illarramendi pass.
