Borussia Dortmund have been forced to revise their goal for the Bundesliga season, after Bayern Munich stormed into a 12 point lead at the top of the table.
If they go on a serious unbeaten run and Bayern somehow slip up, it is not impossible for Dortmund to climb the table.
But manager Jurgen Klopp has laughed off suggestions that his team can catch Bayern, and has all but conceded the club’s title.
Klopp says that second place is now the best Dortmund can do in their domestic league.
"Dortmund, champions this year, that is ridiculous," Klopp said.
"But our goal is to catch Leverkusen and finish the season in second place.
"We need to get 51 points, the maximum remaining from 17 games, and Bayern are 12 points ahead which means they would need a maximum of 39 points. Is that realistic?"
In Europe it is another story for Dortmund altogether.
They finished their Champions League group stage top of the ‘group of death’, ahead of Real Madrid, Ajax Amsterdam and Manchester City.
And with a last-16 tie against Shakhtar Donetsk to come, Klopp is clearly putting the majority of Dortmund’s eggs in the Champions League basket this season.
