Young England goalkeeper Jack Butland signed for Stoke from Birmingham in the dying moments of transfer deadline day.
Earlier in the week, 19-year-old Butland had rejected the chance to move to Chelsea.
The one-cap Three Lion will move to the Britannia Stadium next season, after helping cash-strapped Brum in their fight to stay in the Championship.
Butland had opted not to play for Chelsea despite the wages they were offering, because of the competition for meaningful game time he would have faced from Petr Cech and eventually Thibaut Courtois.
His decision to join Stoke has intriguing implications for the Potters’ incumbent ‘keepers, Asmir Begovic and Thomas Sorensen.
Veteran Dane Sorensen will likely be put out to pasture by highly-rated Butland, while Begovic is clearly bound for bigger and better things, with a host of top European clubs likely to clamour for his services.
