Bayern Munich have struck one of the coups of the transfer window by signing Xabi Alonso from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee rumoured to be around £8 million. Manchester United are reportedly close to offloading Tom Cleverley (Aston Villa, Everton or Valencia), Shinji Kagawa (BVB or Valencia) and Javier Hernandez (Juventus or Valencia) or Danny Welbeck (Tottenham) as Louis van Gaal tries to clean out his squad. Ivorian striker, Salomon Kalou, meanwhile, is on the verge of joining Hertha Berlin.
