Juve Extend Lead At The Top

Juventus produced a wonderful performance as they beat nine-man Roma 3-0 at the Juventus Stadium in their Serie A clash.

Roma created the first real chance of the game when skipper Francesco Totti stole the ball in midfield before driving at the Juventus defence, the talisman then played Adam Ljajic through on goal and should have done better but the young Serbian’s shot was quickly blocked by Buffon in the ninth minute.

The visitors from the capital city were soon made to pay for not taking that chance, and Antonio Conte’s men took the lead in the 17th minute when former Manchester United and City striker Carlos Tevez played a clever short ball into the path of Arturo Vidal who slotted home at the near post.

Roma tried to claw their way back into the game and did have Miralem Pjanic force Buffon into two smart saves with just over 20 minutes showing on the clock.

The Giallorossi had a sustained period of pressure but could not find a way past the Juve defence, and the current Scudetto champions had the last chance of the first-half when Llorente struck a powerful shot which flew just over the crossbar in the 40th minute.

Juve then doubled their lead three minutes into the second period when Leonardo Bonucci slid home at the back post following a wonderful free-kick from Andrea Pirlo.

Things went from bad to worse for the Roman side when they had two players sent off in the space of a minute.

First Danielle De Rossi was shown a straight red for a horrendous two-footed challenge on Chiellini in the 75th minute before Leandro Castán was sent off for handball in the box and conceded a penalty just 60 seconds later.

Mirko Vučinić then stepped up and slotted home the spot-kick to make it 3-0 in the 77th minute and extend Juve’s lead at the top of the table.
