John Terry says he will accept the manager’s decision, if Rafa Benitez decides not to pick him to play against Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.
Terry has struggled for game time under Benitez, but was returned to the starting line-up against Fulham last night.
He scored a brace in their 3-0 win, and made a case for his permanent return to the starting line-up.
Benitez however, later said that he cannot guarantee JT a starting berth, and the veteran defender has given the Spaniard his backing.
He says that with Chelsea in a battle to secure Champions League football next season, as well contesting the Europa League semi-finals, now is not the time to whinge about a lack of game time, and that he will do what he has to in support of the London club’s cause.
"All I can do, if I am not first or second choice, is obviously take my opportunities like tonight and try and impress the manager on a daily basis,” Terry told Sky Sports after his goal heroics last night.
"If he decides to go with the other two [players], then so be it. It is down to me to work hard and get back in this very good team.
"It is very important we stay focused and do not get too down about not playing games.
"Obviously that [in the team] is where we all want to be but, at the same time, we appreciate there are a lot of games coming up."
