A first-half goal from Jese proved to be enough as Spain grabbed a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ghana as they moved into the next round of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey.
The young Black Stars made things far from easy for the Spaniards though, as they created a number of good chances but their failure to sink one saw them leave with nothing.
The decisive moment came just 13 minutes in when Jese slotted the ball into an empty net after Denis Suarez had done brilliantly on the left to beat his man and deliver an inch-perfect cross.
Ghana almost responded through Clifford Aboagye seven minutes later but Spain goalkeeper Daniel Sotres managed to hold on at the second attempt.
Suarez then wasted a glorious chance soon after when he was found inside the area but he somehow spooned his shot over from close range.
The Africans had the better of the second-half with Yiadom Boakye failing to hit the target from inside the area when it seemed easier to score.
Frank Acheampong then went close with a header in the 70th minute while Joseph Duncan's volley brought a smart save from the goalkeeper.
Despite some intense pressure from Ghana, they were unable to find an equaliser, meaning that they are unable to progress to the next round.
