Manchester United manager, David Moyes, has given his backing to the club’s Portuguese international winger, Nani.
Nani was booed off the pitch by a section of the home fans during United’s patchy 3-2 win over Stoke at the weekend.
The Red Devils were trailing 2-1 as Nani trudged off the pitch to a chorus of jeers, which only relented when young flavour of the month, Adnan Januzaj, came on to replace him.
Both players recently signed five-year-contract extensions with United, and it is clear which of the two the Old Trafford faithful believes will be more valuable in that time.
But Moyes clearly rates 26-year-old Nani highly, having rewarded him with the extension in the first place. And he has defended the former Sporting Lisbon man’s contribution against the Potters.
"He is a regular for Portugal, so he is very talented,” Moyes said of Nani.
“There were one or two decisions he might have made better, but he got us the [first] goal with a lovely ball.
"We have a lot of competition for places in the wide areas, incredible competition, and that is what we're looking for."
