Jack Was Sad When Cesc Left But Ozil Makes Him Happy

Arsenal have endured some high profile defections in the past few seasons, but one cut the club’s midfielder Jack Wilshere especially deep.

The young England international says he was very upset when former Gunners skipper, Cesc Fabregas, left the club for an emotional return to his boyhood team Barcelona.

According to Wilshere, Fabregas was a player he felt he had something in common with, and so it was a hard day when his old midfield companion walked out the Emirates door.

"The one I was really upset about leaving was Fabregas, I learned so much from just watching him," Wilshere told Arsenal's official club website when asked which former Arsenal star he most regretted leaving.

"He's similar to me starting at a young age.

"I was the most upset about him leaving.”

Fortunately for Arsenal, the club finally has a player capable of making the same kind of classy impact for them that Cesc did, in the form of Mesut Ozil.

And Wilshere says that the sadness of Cesc’s departure has been overcome by Ozil’s arrival.

“But [the player] to arrive I'm excited about [is] Ozil, he's settled in nicely,” Wilshere continued.

“His first game away at Sunderland he got an assist and was man of the match.

"He plays the Arsenal way and I think there's a lot more to come. He's so comfortable on the ball, right foot, left foot.

"If you look at his stats he runs the most, he makes it look easy but that only masks how hard he works."

Meanwhile, Wilshere has lavished praise on Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

Wenger was like a father figure to Fabregas, and it seems Wilshere feels the same way about the iconic Frenchman.

"He's been the main person in my career: he gave me a chance when I was 16,” Wilshere said of Wenger.

"He gave me special care, put his arm around me, he picked me out and gave me the chance to train with the first team every day and that helped my career massively, just learning from the way they play.

"Sending me on loan to Bolton, learning to play the Premier League way, that was important too. Some games I didn't play well but he still stuck with me when I made mistakes. If you make mistakes he sticks with you, and that's huge.”
