Italy Announce Squad For Euro Qualifiers, Balotelli Snubbed

Italy boss Roberto Mancini has announced his squad that will do duty in the upcoming 2020 European Championship qualifiers against Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina, but snubbed a number of stars, including controversial striker Mario Balotelli.

The Azzurri are set to resume their Euro 2020 qualification campaign on 8 June against 2004 champions Greece, before hosting Bosnia three days later.

Torino talisman Andrea Belotti is arguably the biggest shock inclusion as he has been recalled to the national team fold for the first time since his last appearance for his country in September 2018.

Another notable exclusion is AC Milan shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who missed out on selection due to a thigh injury. As a result, Mancini handed a first call-up to Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.

Despite his excellent run of form for Ligue 1 outfit Marseille, Balotelli also failed to make the squad, with Mancini opting for Cagiliari striker Leonardo Pavoletti instead.

Meanwhile Juventus starlet Moise Kean was rewarded for his excellent showing in the 2018/19 campaign with his inclusion in the squad alongside Serie A top goalscorer Fabio Quagliarella, Lorenzo Insigne and Stephan El Shaarawy.

Italy squad in full, as per the Azzurri's official Twitter account:

Goalkeepers: Alessio Cragno, Pierluigi Gollini, Salvatore Sirigu, Antonio Mirante

Defenders: Francesco Acerbi, Cristiano Biraghi, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Mattia De Sciglio, Emerson Palmieri, Alessandro Florenzi, Armando Izzo, Gianluca Mancini, Alessio Romagnoli, Leonardo Spinazzola

Midfielders: Nicolo Barella, Federico Bernardeschi, Bryan Cristante, Jorginho, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Stefano Sensi, Marco Verratti, Nicolo Zaniolo

Strikers: Andrea Belotti, Federico Chiesa, Stephan El Shaarawy, Vincenzo Grifo, Ciro Immobile, Lorenzo Insigne, Moise Kean, Leonardo Pavoletti, Matteo Politano, Fabio Quagliarella
