Chievo 0-1 Hellas Verona
Luca Toni recorded a new club record as he fired Hellas Verona into a 1-0 win over cross-city rivals Chievo on Saturday evening.
Earlier in the season Chievo snatched a ‘shock’ 1-0 away win when the two teams faced each other, and this time the encounter saw the Flying Donkeys struggling to keep their Serie A hopes alive.
Besides the fact that the hosts got off to an impressive start, threatening the Butei with some early goalmouth action, they couldn’t break the deadlock against a stern Andrea Mandorlini backline.
The wasted chance proved costly as Hellas jumped on a defensive error straight after the restart. Dario Dainelli headed the ball in the path of Toni and he prodded home to net his 16th goal of the campaign. His strike is also the highest a player for Hellas has scored in a season in top flight Italian football.
Inter 2-2 Bologna
Diego Milito couldn’t help hand Inter a win over Bologna as he missed a penalty to see the two teams play out to a 2-2 draw at the San Siro Stadium.
Mauro Icardi handed the hosts the lead twice in the encounter, but a leaky defence and a valiant display by Bologna saw them fight back for a point.
The Nerazzurri were in need of plucking out a win after picking up two points from their previous three round of matches and they were greeted with a perfect start to the game.
After just six minutes Mauro Icardi hit a splendid volley on a Yuto Nagatomo cross from the left, to surprise the defence and beat the ‘keeper.
Michele Pazienza responded with an equalizer ten minutes before the break. Samir Handanovic performed a miraculous on Christodoulopoulos, but it came back out for Pazienza who tucked home the rebound.
Icardi then ensured things were back in Inter’s favour after the restart with a stunning shot into the far top corner that went off the inside of the post.
Though, as the game drew to a close, Bologna ensured they snatched a point through Panagiotis Kone due to Diego Milito missing his penalty later on. The Beneamata were caught napping and the Greek turned it in from six yards at the second attempt to make it 2-2.
Five minutes from time Inter were awarded their first ever penalty for the season, but failed to take home the victory after Gianluca Curci pulled a save off Il Prinicipe’s spot-kick.
