Roma Close Gap On Juventus

Roma moved to within eight points of Serie A leaders Juventus with a 4-2 win over Parma at the Stadio Olympico on Wednesday night.

Former Arsenal forward Gervinho broke the deadlock in the 12th minute for the home side as he found the opening from close range to make it 1-0.

Roma almost doubled their lead a few seconds later as striker Mattia Destro hit the woodwork after a wonderful through ball by skipper Francesco Totti.

The Rome side’s captain then let fly from outside the box in the 14th minute but his shot went just wide of the target.

The visitors however responded in the 15th minute as Afriyie Acquah made it 1-1 after being played in by Massimo Gobbi.

Totti again was involved as he gave Roma the lead once more after being found by a Miralem Pjanic ball, before the former Italy international found the top corner and made it 2-1 to the hosts with just 16 minutes played.

Amauri almost found a second equaliser for the guests but his shot in the 38th minute went just wide of the target.

Roma made it 3-1 just five minutes into the second-half as midfielder Pjanic found the bottom corner after making space for himself.

In the 83rd minute Brazilian substitute Taddei was set up by fellow sub Alessandro Florenzi to make it 4-1 to Roma.

Frenchman Jonathan Biabiany scored a consolation goal for Parma in stoppage time for the game to finish 4-2.
