Goals in either half ensured that AS Roma began their Serie A campaign with 2-0 over Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday Night.
Radja Nainggolan scored in the first half, while Ivorian Gervinho scored deep in second half injury time to ensure a winning start to Serie A for Roma.
It was a lively opening period for Roma as they dominated proceedings, but struggled to create any clear cut openings.
Roma's pressure told in the 28th minute when they took the lead through Radja Nainggolan, as the midfielder finshed off a Gervinho rebounded-shot into an empty net, 1-0.
In the 35th minute Roma looked to increase their lead as Vasillis Torosidis' shot from inside of the box was saved by Noberto Neto.
The teams went into the half-time break with the score at 1-0.
Fiorentina looked to get an early goal in the second half when in the 47th minute Borja Valero unleashed a half volley at the edge of the box but the shot went straight to Morgan De Sanctis
Gervinho looked dangerous and lively on the night and in the 59th minute the winger was played through onto goal by Miralem Pjanic but his shot was saved by Neto.
Two minutes later the crossbar came to Roma's rescue as Josip Illicic's free-kick had the beating of De Sanctis only for the crossbar to prevent a Fiorentina equalising goal.
Fiorentina were at it again in the 63rd minute as Khouma Babacar got to the end of Gonzalo Rodriguez's knockdown in the box but his shot was well parried away by De Sanctis.
Fiorentina continued to search for the equaliser in the 81st as Illicic let fly from range but his effort just beat the left-hand post.
Gervinho sealed the win for Roma in the third minute of injury time after he was played through into goal by Nainggolan, before rounding Neto to slot home, 2-0.
