Real Madrid have officially announced the signing of Spanish Under 21 starlet Isco.
Los Blancos had been in direct competition with English Premier League heavyweights Manchester City over the transfer of 21-year-old Isco.
The excessively talented attacking midfielder sprung to prominence over the past two seasons with Malaga in La Liga, and was a key performer in their impressive debut in the Uefa Champions League last season.
City had hoped that Isco would follow his former manager at Malaga, Manuel Pellegrini, to the Etihad.
But like they did when luring Cristiano Ronaldo to the Bernabeu from Manchester United, and a host of star players before him, Madrid have proved that they remain arguably the most sought-after and glamorous destination for any professional footballer.
Once it became clear that Madrid had their heart set on Isco, they were confident that the historical pull of Spain’s most successful team would simply prove too strong to resist.
That is exactly as it happened, and is a blow to City’s transfer agenda, as well as the pride of the English Premier League.
“Real Madrid and Malaga CF have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Francisco Roman Alarcon Isco, to be bound to the club the next five seasons,” Real stated on their official website on Thursday.
Los Blancos already have a glittering attacking midfield, and it will be interesting how new manager Carlo Ancelotti sees fit to include rising star Isco in his first-team plans.
How do you think Ancelotti will make use of Isco?
