Each Fernando Torres highlight in his Chelsea career has so far proved to be a false dawn.
Whenever he scores or enjoys himself on the field, he speaks about how his tribulations in West London are over, and how the old El Nino is back.
The Spaniard was part of the Blues second-string, along with his compatriot Juan Mata and Brazilian David Luiz, who saw off Swindon in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.
He scored Chelsea’s opener, sliding in to angle home from a tight angle, and was also on hand to turn assistant as Ramires secured progression to the next round.
It was a good night for Torres, one he hopes will herald his return to the starting line-up in the Premier League, and to the upper reaches of the scoring charts too.
Last season Torres enjoyed a purple patch in cup competitions while his goal drought lingered in the league.
This time around, he hopes to score regularly in all competitions.
"It is just that in the last couple of seasons I have been involved more in the cup competitions than in the Premier League and I have scored more goals in the cups than in the league,” he told Sky Sports.
"Hopefully I will have the chance to play more often in the Premier League and score some more goals.
"We know that the season is long and that we will all have the chance to play in important games. We have got a big squad and we will all be involved.
"Hopefully we keep the hard work high and we are in the manager's plans, because there are 25 players in this squad and it is difficult to play in a great team."
Meanwhile, the Swindon game proved costly for the Blues, who lost both Marco van Ginkel and Ramires to injury.
Van Ginkel is one of the “beautiful, young eggs” Jose Mourinho is attempting to hatch. But he cracked last night, and left the fray with a knee injury that “is not looking good” according to assistant first-team coach Steve Holland.
And Ramires is a “major doubt” for Chelsea’s London derby against Spurs at the weekend, after injuring a muscle in his hip.
