International Friendly
Result: Germany 3-0 Russia
Date: 15 November 2018
Venue: Red Bull Arena
Leroy Sane was among the scorers for Germany, who thrashed Russia 3-0 in an international friendly at the Red Bull Arena on Thursday evening.
With Toni Kroos being rested, Sebastian Rudy joined Leon Goretzka in the middle of the park, while Leroy Sane was handed a rare start.
Sane made his presence known early on as he put the home side ahead after just eight minutes with a clinical finish past Andrey Lunev after being picked out by Serge Gnabry.
Joachim Low's men were in full control in the first half but they had to wait until the 25th minute for the second goal as Antonio Rudiger flicked Kimmich's corner into the pat of Sule, who calmly slotted home from close range.
Russia, meanwhile, looked like a far cry from the side that reached the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup a few months ago, as they struggled to create openings.
However, Germany bagged a third goal as Kai Havertz picked out Serge Gnabry with a well-weighted ball, and the Bayern Munich attacker made no mistake from close range.
The second half could not continue in the same fashion as the first, as both coaches opted for numerous changes which disrupted the flow of the opening 20 minutes.
The Germans were patient in their approach for the rest of the second half, as the visitors barely showed any attacking intent as Bernd Leno endured a quiet evening between the sticks.
Unfortunately, that prove to be the trend for the rest of the half as Germany saw out the remaining stages of the half with relative ease as the encounter ended 3-0.
Low's charges will now turn their attention to Monday's UEFA Nations League encounter against the Netherlands.
