Inter Milanlegend Javier Zanetti could place his first game since last April against Livorno this weekend.
It will also be Zanetti’s first taste of football as a 40-year-old, if he gets a run-out after recovering from his ruptured Achilles tendon.
Veteran Zanetti has made a scarcely plausible 851 appearances for Inter, and if he is fit enough to play this weekend will begin stretching his incredible record for the rest of the season.
Defender Zanetti finds his beloved Inter improving of late. After a disastrous last few seasons, they are currently fourth on the Serie A table, and well-placed to challenge for a spot in the Champions League next season.
Inching closer to a return has made Zanetti feel like a fresh-faced youth player again.
"I'm feeling good and I hope I can play a few minutes," Zanetti told Radio 102.5.
"I still need to regain my top condition, so I'm not going to be presumptuous, also because my teammates are doing very well.
"I've not spoken with the coach about my position yet, but it's bound to be somewhere in midfield. But like I said, the team are playing really well as it is and it already means a lot for me just to make myself available for selection."
