Inter Milan fought back from a goal down to beat Fiorentina 2-1 in a Serie A clash on Thursday night.
Inter started brightly as Yuto Nagatomo forced Norberto Neto into a save in the first minute with a shot from distance while Alberto Aquilani continued to show signs of getting back to his best as he almost squeezed through a perfect throughball at the other end.
The Viola powered forward on a counter in the 11th minute with Joaquin sliding a pass through to Giuseppe Rossi but Samir Handanovic dealt with his low strike.
Fredy Guarin tried to respond at the other end two minutes later but he hit the side netting while Joaquin went for goal himself in the 20th minute but couldn't beat the goalkeeper at the near post.
The Fiorentina forward continued to prove troublesome for the Inter defence and after the latter lost the ball, the former rifled in a dangerous cross but nobody was on hand to take advantage.
The half ended with Rossi scuffing a shot wide from distance while Guarin was denied by Neto after getting onto a cross from Nagatomo.
Guarin saw another rasping drive saved four minutes into the second-half but Joaquin would eventually get a reward for his display when he was tugged back in the area and the referee pointed to the spot. Rossi took responsibility and slammed a confident finish past the goalkeeper.
Inter responded 11 minutes later though as Esteban Cambiasso produced an acrobatic finish after the goalkeeper had come out to claim the ball and missed.
Josip Ilicic saw his attempt to restore Fiorentina's lead saved in the 79th minute and Inter would hit the front three minutes later when Jonathan smashed a shot into the roof of the net off of a cross from Ricardo Alvarez.
Inter finished the game strongly with Alvaro Pereira seeing a shot brilliantly saved by Neto while Cambiasso shot wayward after a poor clearance from the visitors.
Massimo Ambrosini almost netted a late equaliser but his stabbed attempt in the second minute of stoppage time was saved by Handanovic as Inter claimed the spoils.
