Borussia Dortmund have been dealt a blow early in the season, after their star midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan suffered an injury.
The 22-year-old creative midfielder damaged his back during Germany’s 3-3 draw with Paraguay on Wednesday night.
He had been suffering from the injury before the match, and required painkilling injections in order to participate.
And while he did manage to score the first of Germany’s goals, he was unable even to finish the first-half.
Dortmund have now announced via their official website that Gundogan will be out of action for up to two weeks.
"According to team doctor Markus Braun the problem with his back has now become worse instead of improving," Dortmund said.
Manager Jurgen Klopp will hope that Gundogan recovers quickly and completely.
The last thing he needs is for the silky schemer to have a season riddled with injury.
He may only be at the beginning of his club career, but already Gundogan is a world class player, and is arguably the most important individual in Klopp’s set-up.
