Barcelona are set to offer their Spanish international midfield magician, Andres Iniesta, a new contract.
29-year-old World Cup winner Iniesta has not started every match for the Blaugrana this season, as new manager ‘Tata’ Martino seeks his best XI.
But there is no doubt that Iniesta remains one of the primary midfielders at the Camp Nou, and as his long-time compadre, Xavi Herndez, greys around the temples, Iniesta will surely play an even more prominent role in the future.
Iniesta has only ever played for Barca, having grown through the ranks at the club.
He is on record as saying he would like to retire there.
And that is likely to be the case, with a contract extension in the pipeline.
Iniesta’s current deal with the Spanish champions expires in 2015, but club president Sandro Rosell has revealed that the Spanish national hero will soon sign a new contract.
"Iniesta is a key player for us," Rosell told TV3 programme Hat-Trick.
"It is likely that the next great news for Barcelona will be the renewal of Iniesta's contract."
