Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan, has signed a new deal which will keep him at the Bundesliga club until June 2016.
The Germany international has been side-lined with a back injury since August 2013, but was chased by Europeans top clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
However, the 23-year-old has now commited his future to Jurgen Klopp’s side and is looking forward to make his comeback on the pitch.
"I am very grateful that my club has given me the opportunity to continue to be part of this special team and this very special environment,” Gundogan said.
"I will do everything to help my colleagues again soon and I am very optimistic about the coming weeks and months."
The highly rated central midfielder joined Dortmund in 2011 and won the domestic double with the Schwarz-Gelben in 2012. He was one of Dortmund’s leading figures in their successful 2013 Champions League campaign, but has only played one game this season.
Sporting director Michael Zorc added: "We are very pleased with this deal against the backdrop of the injury-related situation and hope that Ilkay will contribute his full potential in the coming season for BVB."
