Ibrahimovic: Fate In Own Hands

Sweden’s captain and top striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, feels his country’s qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil is in their ‘own hands’.

Sweden are in second place behind Germany in Group C following their 2-1 win over the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Friday and will next face Kazakhstan on Tuesday before facing Austria and then Germany in their final two group fixtures next month.

Ibrahimovic feels that if they win their next two games, their last match against Germany will not be as important as second place could be good enough to see them qualify for the World Cup in Brazil.

“I feel we have it in our own hands,” said Ibrahimovic.

“If we succeed in winning these two matches (against Kazakhstan and Austria), we will see if the last match against Germany is important.”

Reflecting on their 2-1 win over Ireland, which saw them come from a goal behind, coach Erik Hamren said he was happy with the result, but not his teams attitude.

“We knew it would be difficult and tough, therefore, it is nice to return home with three points,” said Hamren.

“I am most pleased with the attitude. Unfortunately, we fall behind too often for my liking. I have been proud of the players many times, but especially on Friday.”
